A little bit about me...

I’m a designer of Japanese and Jamaican descent and was born in Tokyo. I have fond memories of 90’s Japan — from the launch of Pokemon, to all the awesome toys and video games!

How I like to spend my free time

I love working with my hands. Any kind of art-making brings me peace of mind.

I love spending time with friends and family as they help me manage stress and enjoy life to the fullest.

My dream is to be a published novelist, a video game director, and a creator of a cute character brand like Sanrio or Labubu.

Films and gaming are a huge part of my life. I’m an avid Letterboxd user and can spend hours playing city-building sims.

What’s inspiring me

My guiding principles as a designer

Human-centric

Design is about tailoring to people’s needs. Regardless of how simple and fun a design may appear, it should satisfy some individual need

Joyful

Not all design has to be joyful, but I find the ones that do usually have the most impact and lasting impression

Emotive

Similar to joyful, if the design doesn’t move you emotionally, I would deem the design a failure

Craftsmanship

Good design, art, or any craft shows the remnants of the designer’s touch. It should be sensorially apparent that it was crafted with love

Ease of use

The user experience should bring little frustration for the user — and if inadvertently it does, how do we design future iterations to mitigate these pain points?

Intuitive

Can the user flow through the design with minimal onboarding? How do we design without the need of burdening a user with extensive tutorials?

Aesthetic

Is the aesthetic memorable? Can a user describe the theme with only a few words? Does the theme carve out a space where the design can shine in uniqueness and idiosyncrasy?

Innovative

Does the design say something new about the medium itself, the technology it employs, the functionality it provides?

My journey as a designer

Automotive & Immersive Media

I started my design career making dashboards for scooters and interfaces for 3D immersive media in San Francisco

Robotics and Human Collaboration

I then moved into human-robotic interaction and gained knowledge and insight on how to design human-robot interfaces in Boston

Mobile UX & AR/XR Interfaces

Next, made a leap to product design where I worked on incredibly fun near and long-term solutions to some pesky problems in mobile UX in NYC

Agentic Solutions &AGI Development

I now find myself at the throes of agentic experiences and discovering what my new role will be in this new future

Extras

In my free time, I like to make games with my friends, doodle, or just illustrate random concepts. Feel free to browse my Behance profile to see a more playful side

I also love to make fake band posters in my spare time. It’s more of a painting outlet for me. Feel free to browse my art on Instagram @whichbandisthat

Random Ice Breaker Answers

Favorite food: donuts

Favorite color: pink (but like a soft pink)

A movie I recommend: Russian Arc (because it’s 90 minutes of just one long shot and that’s nuts!)

If I went to school again, what would I study: astronomy

If I lived in the Middle Ages, what occupation would I be: apothecary or witch 🙃
